What is Aussie hip hop?

Australian hip-hop is highly influenced by urban African American styles and reggae. It's been around since the early 1980's and interest has grown exponentially since then. With big names emerging like Def Wish Cast, Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, 1200 Techniques, Butterfingers, Bliss n' Eso, Hyjak n Torcha, 360, Bias B, Pegz and so on... people are beginning to realise that the Aussie music scene has a lot of potential.

But it's still not receiving the respect it truly deserves.

Most Aussie hip hop artists start out by writing, mixing, recording and producing their own music from their own home and making their own labels. That alone deserves admiration! With dedication and perseverance these artists have developed a style all their own.
